Bird problem at Bratfest --

Set-up underway for the 40th year of the World's Largest Bratfest! But it seems a little issue has popped up.  NBC news Madison reporting that over the weekend volunteers setting up the main tent at Willow Island happened upon a bird nest in the gravel.  A momma bird, dad and four eggs have laid claim to the area immediately adjacent to the main event tent.  Quick-thinking volunteers jumped into action creating a makeshift barrier around the bird nest. But volunteers say the mom and dad birds are stressed out over all the activity - obviously.  The birds, believed to be a family of Killdeers, are known for nest building on the ground.  The incubation period for the eggs anywhere from 22- 28 days but no word on how long these may have been there.  Organizers say all is well for now -  they just ask that you ignore the nest while enjoying the festival.  Set-up expected to be complete by Thursday.  Bon Appetit!

Quick -- count your kids!

New research out today says having more than a couple children can definitely affect your mind! Researchers at Columbia University found that raising three or more kids may increase your cognitive decline or even accelerate certain types of dementia later in life.  Researchers found rearing three or more kids is the equivalent of adding over 6 years to your actual age ;(   The study says lots of kids costs more money, incurring considerable more financial costs thus reducing family income and standard of living which in turn causes stress and worry which are both factors in decline in cognition -

Having additional children curbs women's career choices and hours they work and your professional work life  i m p r o v e s   cognitive functioning.   The good news -  having lots of children reduces parents risk of isolation which can protect against cognition loss.   Published in the journal Demography, one doctor at Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr. Gayatri Devi, a neurologist - cautions.... he says it's a provocative study - but it is one study.  Interpret with caution.

The dinosaur that made 'Jurassic Park' ........

Christie's Auction House sells a dinosaur skeleton of 'Deinonychus antirrhopus'  or as we have come to know him,  the T-Rex-- the skeleton went for almost three times what they were expecting -   $12.4 million.  After the 1993 film made the species one of the world's most recognizable dinosaurs. The skeleton, affectionately known as 'Hector', within the auction house confines - goes to a private, undisclosed investor.  This continues a recent trend of high price fossil sales..... worrying many paleontologists who explain these specimens could be lost to science when they go to the highest bidder instead of public institutions.   The original film, 'Jurassic Park', made $192 million in it's original theatrical release -  so - producers, technically, could have afforded the now famous model.
