Today we celebrate National Chimpanzee Day

Part of the celebrating includes the introduction of a new Jane Goodall Barbie – replete with little teeny binoculars, a field guide and a petit chimpanzee.  Mattel Inc says the new doll is made from recycled, ocean-bound plastics. The launch coincides with the 62 year anniversary of Goodall’s historic journey as she began (what was to become) her life long to study chimpanzees in Tanzania’s Gombe National Park.  Goodall, now 88, says she’d wanted her own likeness in a doll even before Mattel approached her.  Her new doll part of Barbie’s “Inspiring Women Series’ which features and honors female role models and trailblazers throughout history.
