This weekend, over 45,000 fans and participants from 49 states and 23 countries filtered into Madison for the Iron Man competition. This race consisted of 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking, and 26.2 miles of running.
Many Iron Man vistors could be recognized by their athletic attire, but sporting goods stores were not the only ones to benefit from extra business this weekend. The Cap Times reported an increase in the sales of both pasta and bike parts over the past few days, while participants prepared for the race.
Verona's Jackie Arendt won the women's title, finishing with a time of 9:47:07. Victory was sweet for Arendt, who has come in second place twice before. The men's title was taken home by Maik Twelsiak. This was Twelsiak's second Iron Man win, completing the race in 8:40:15.
