NPR is know for being ultra hip and having their finger on the pulse of pop culture especially country music and they have declared 2013 the year of the woman in country music.
They may be correct, in recent years we have seen women take charge with the popularity of Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift and the trio Pistol Annies. Not only are women dominating the top of the charts the music they are writing isn't so much of the fluff we were used to, todays country women are empowered and not to be messed with, "Gunpowder & Lead" and Mama's Broken Heart" have a fierce bite.
With more women fronting bands like Little Big Town, Lady Antebellum, The Band Perry, and Sugarland the old gender barriers seem to be broken, showing other upcoming artist that they can hang in what used to be mostly a mans club.
Do you like the rise in popularity for women in country music?
