The Westboro Baptist Church set up shop in front of a Vince Gill concert on Saturday at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts in Kansas City, MO to protest his divorce and remarriage. Calmly explaining that he "just came to see what hate looks like," Gill confronted the protestors.
Gill was married to Janis Oliver, singer of Sweethearts of the Rodeo, from 1980-1998. They have one child together. Gill has been married to Amy Grant since 2000. On this subject, a WBC protestor said "Don't you know that divorce plus remarriage equals adultery?" Gill responded: "Don't you know that you...are lucky that you don't have a sign that says something about my wife?"
A YouTube user who claims to be unaffiliated with the WBC posted a video of the confrontation between Gill and the protestors. Although he kept his composure, Gill hurled insults at the protestors.
