4:20 Conversation: Merle Haggard, And Saying Good Bye

Wouldn’t it be great if every jukebox in town played a Merle Haggard song simultaneously tonight? Know I will be doing my part to make that happen later.

Chatting with Ashley Campbell after the most recent Today’s Q106 Storyteller’s Jam, went on about how much I love Bakersfield. If you ever get a chance to see a show at Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace, it is a bucket list must! What created the fondness for Bakersfield, and what I went on an on about with Ashley, was my sheer admiration for Merle Haggard, and to a great extent, also Dwight Yoakam.

Many stories had been shared recently about Haggard’s declining health. Wonder how many times the Lord came for him, and he most likely replied, “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here And Drink.”

He was getting up there. By country legend accounts, he was WAY up there. Merle Haggard was country! Happy birthday! Hope you’re spending it jamming with your good friends to have gone before.

What will you remember most about Merle Haggard?
